Why is VRSP a referral-only hospital?

At Veterinary Referral Surgical Practice, we believe the best health care for your pet is achieved by serving as an extension of your referring veterinarian's practice and working closely with affiliated specialties (internal medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology) should the need arise. By operating on a referral-only basis, our specialized, highly-trained veterinarians are available to focus on advanced veterinary care for your pet. Whether your pet requires a difficult orthopedic procedure, advanced soft-tissue surgery or complex neurosurgery, the veterinarians at VRSP are ready to give the best care available.

How do I prepare my pet for an appointment at VRSP?

Consultations are scheduled between 9 and 11:30 a.m. Prior to your visit, please withhold food the morning of the consultation, as sedation may be required for diagnostic procedures. Water restriction is not necessary. If possible, please discontinue any anti-inflammatories (aspirin, Rimadyl, Metacam, Deramax, Zubrin, etc.) at least 24 hours before your appointment, as these medications may mask symptoms, making diagnosis more difficult. If your pet is scheduled for surgery, you may bring a small amount of their food to avoid diet change that may lead to stomach upset. Personal items may be left with your pet to make them more comfortable. During your appointment, all dogs must be on a leash and all cats must be in a carrier while at VRSP.
